Commission splits: commission, shares and chair rent
Decide who earns a share of what each calendar takes: commission for your team, or a share agreed with a business you work with (such as chair rent). See what is owed.
Commission splits: commission, shares and chair rent
Commission splits keeps a running record of what each calendar takes and the share one party owes another. It works whether or not you use Checkout.
The one big idea: ResNeo only counts. It works out what is owed and shows it to the people involved. Paying it, and anything to do with tax, is up to you and your accountant.
A split always answers one question: who earns a share of what this calendar takes?
- The person who works one of your calendars. Your business pays them a share, such as commission for someone you employ, or an agreed share for someone self-employed whose takings come to you.
- A business you work with. One business pays the other a share of one calendar's takings. For example, a chair renter with their own ResNeo account might pay you 40% of their completed bookings as rent.
What the page shows
Go to Settings, then Commission splits. Everything is arranged by calendar, and each line is a plain sentence:
- Your calendars: what you pay the person who works each calendar, for example "You pay Sophie 40% of services and 10% of products, as commission", and any share you have agreed with a business on that calendar.
- Calendars at businesses you work with: grouped by business, the calendars you can agree a share on, and what each business pays you.
- Logins without a calendar (only if you use Checkout): team logins that are not linked to a calendar. They only earn from what they sell at Checkout, such as products. To count a login with a calendar, choose its calendars in Staff.
- Standard rates: what your team earns unless a calendar has its own rates.
- How figures are worked out: what counts for services, and whether to work on prices before or including VAT.
If another business has proposed a split, it waits for you at the top under Waiting for your answer.
Set up a split
- Select Set up a split.
- Under Whose takings are shared?, choose the calendar. Your own calendars come first, then the calendars at each business you work with.
- Under Who earns a share?, choose who it is for:
- For one of your calendars: the person who works it, or a business you work with that can see that calendar.
- For a calendar at another business: your business.
- Select Next, enter the share, and read the sentence underneath. It says exactly what will count, from which day, before anything is saved.
- Select Save for your team, or Send for a business.
You can also start from a calendar's own line: Set a share or Change for the person who works it, Share with a business on one of your calendars, or Set up a split on a calendar at another business.
Your team's share
- Use your standard rates or Set their own rates for services and products. Your standard rates are set once under Standard rates, so most people need nothing more.
- Call it Commission or Their share. This only changes the wording on the report.
- Rates for one category let a category earn a different rate, such as colour.
- Starts on is the first day the new share counts. Rates are dated, so a change never alters figures before that day. If you make a mistake, change it again the same day: the latest change counts.
Products and gift vouchers always count from Checkout, because that is where they are sold.
Agree a split with another business
You can agree a split on a calendar at a business you have a Work as one team link with, or another member of your live collective. The business whose calendar it is pays the share to the other.
When you set one up you choose what to call it (Rent, Fee, Commission or Their share), the share of services, whether to include products, whether to work it out before or including VAT, how often you settle up (weekly or monthly), and the day it starts. A worked example shows what it would have come to last month.
Nothing counts until the other business accepts. They get an email and a notice in ResNeo, and the split shows at the top of their page under Waiting for your answer.
Select Manage on a split to:
- Propose new terms. The current terms stay in force until the other business accepts.
- See its Statements.
- End this split from the last day it counts. Either business can do this on its own.
If the link or collective stops allowing the split, it ends automatically. Its statements stay under Past splits for both businesses to read.
See what is owed
Go to Settings, then Reports, then Commission splits. Choose the dates you want, then:
- Your team shows each person's commission, with the lines behind it.
- Businesses you work with shows You owe and Owed to you, with what each split counted and owes.
For a split with another business, open Statements to see one statement per week or month. When you have settled a period, select Mark as paid and add a note if you like, such as "bank transfer". Both businesses see the mark. If the figures for that period change later, for example a booking is marked as a no-show, the statement says so.
In the ResNeo app
Admins find Commission splits in the More tab. It is laid out the same way, by calendar, with Set up a split, Waiting for your answer, statements and Mark as paid. The Commission splits tab in Reports shows the same figures as the web.
